Hans Jürgen Dannheisig
Partner, Research & Institutional Strategic Partnerships
Hans-Jürgen Dannheisig is a man of many professions — trained both as a butcher and an organizational programmer. After completing degrees in economics and related fields, he first built a career as a left-leaning banker at a trade union bank, before later taking responsibility for the investment business of a traditional private bank.
His early forays into sustainable investing initially remained on the sidelines. Only after founding his own consulting firms did sustainability move to the center of his professional focus.
Today, Hans-Jürgen practices what he calls “Fairantwortung” — taking fair responsibility — through his impact investing advisory firm and as the publisher of finance media dedicated to this field. In both roles, he contributes to the transformation of the financial sector and society. In addition, he is active in local politics, working on topics such as municipal heat planning and the establishment of public companies for renewable energy use.
Dr. Kevin Fleming
Chief Research Officer
He has held leadership roles in projects funded by the European Commission, the German Federal Government, and the World Bank, covering topics such as natural hazard and risk analysis, the use of Earth observation data and artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and, particularly relevant for ISG, nature-based solutions. Through his recent involvement in projects focused on nature-based approaches, Dr. Fleming has gained a deep understanding of the complexities of implementing such programs, including the risks of greenwashing and the challenges of maintaining socially valuable initiatives beyond initial funding cycles.
At ISG, Dr. Fleming monitors and evaluates green development initiatives across Europe to identify opportunities for greater efficiency and societal impact. In addition, he critically reviews and assesses new projects and innovations of the institute to ensure their strategic alignment with ISG’s mission and values.
